Event Description

The Convention will take place at an important time in planning, shaping, commissioning and delivering Youth Support Services. The Government has now published new statutory guidance on local authority services for young people and a framework of outcomes for young people.

Tim Loughton MP, Minister responsible for youth services, has confirmed that he will give the key-note address at the Convention, with a report one year-on from publication of the Government’s policy statement Positive for Youth. There will be key contributions from the Association of Directors of Children’s Services, National Youth Agency and Department for Education and the Department for Health, among others.

At the same time Local Authority Youth Support Service leaders will well along the road in designing the future direction of their services. The Convention will give insight and understanding of how this relates to other policy areas and services in Education, Health, Family and Community. It will give you the opportunity to take part in roundtable, panel discussions, and workshops to hear from and ask questions of experts in their field.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Tim Loughton MP, Children’s Minister, Department for Education
  • Karen Buck MP, Shadow Education Minister
  • Graham Stuart MP, Chair, Education Select Committee
  • Olivia McLeod, Director Supporting Delivery, Department for Education
  • Peter Mucklow, Director for Young People, Education Funding Agency
  • Karen Turner, Deputy Director, Department of Health
  • Dr John Coleman, Association of Young People’s Health
  • Mark Carrilline, Association of Directors of Children’s Services
  • Jayne Ludlam, Director of Children & Family, Sheffield
  • Rt Hon David Blunkett MP

There will also be the chance to learn about new ways of working, with practical examples of what’s taking place elsewhere in the country:

  • Unlocking Business, United Futures – UK Youth and Business in the Community
  • Quality Outcomes, working with the voluntary sector - Ambition and London Youth
  • Youth Innovation, new ways of working – CHYPS and National Youth Agency
  • Health and Wellbeing – Mental Health Foundation and Youth Access
  • Youth Voice – British Youth Council

This event will continue to be an ideal networking opportunity for colleagues to meet together and gain support from each other. Download your booking form here.

Using Creative Assessment Tools for Practitioners at Attlee Youth & Community Centre, London E1

April 11, 2013 from 9:30am to 4:30pm
BackgroundOne of the challenges of assessment processes with young people is how to secure their involvement and active participation. Only too often assessment can become something that is ‘done’ to young people (or a form that needs  to be filled in), rather than a dynamic process that puts them at the centre, something theyare involved with and have some ownership over. The assessment tools called ‘CAF Cards’  and ‘Road Sign Cards’ have been developed with young people to work with the…See More
