Target Group:

This course is suitable for a wide range of practitioners, managers and volunteers, working to engage with young people in formal or in-formal contexts and who want to use social media to engage with their client group.

Pre-requisites for the training course:

This course is not appropriate to those new to Social media. You will need be confident in using Facebook to post updates, photos and share content online.　You will also be aware of the updated Facebook security and privacy settings. Ideally have attended the Introduction to Online Social Media course.

Learning Outcomes:

• Understand different social media consultation tools available online for online youth engagement/ consultation
• Identify the key issues to consider with online youth engagement with young people (power, control and promoting equality)
• Recognise & understand associate risks & safe guarding considerations with online youth engagement with young people
• Recognizing ‘triggers’ and ‘online disclosures’ from a vulnerable young person(s)
• Understand appropriate youth professional online interventions and signposting young people to local/online services
• Create a short film clip and upload to YouTube and explore how to create a FREE YouTube channel for your organisation.
• Explore how to create and facilitate an online discussion forum through a social network.
• Learn how to create an animated film clip and then ’share’ that film clip across various social network platforms

Katie Bacon is qualified Youth Worker with over 13 years’ experience. She is the Director of Online Youth Outreach and chairs and manages an online forum called ‘Youth Work Online’ http://youthworkonline.org.
