Youth councils

Hi everyoneI'm helping a local authority out on a voluntary basis with their youth council - mainly around using digital.I've got some simple plans - which mainly draw on my experience of digital participation generally.Am wondering if anyone has any nice examples of good digital work with youth councils or any ideas for things that might work? Thanks!See More

Virtual social media surgery

Posted on October 1, 2008 at 21:52 0 Comments

I've created a group on here which people can use to find out information and get support on using social media & web 2.0 in youth work. It's like an online version of the surgery I ran at the unconference.

Do come and join!

A great day - see for yourself!

The first (of many, I hope!) UKYouthOnline unconference was an unmitigated success today. Big thanks to Tim for organising it, and to Steph and the other DIUS folk for being such great hosts.

I really enjoyed the Social Media Surgery, being able to give a bit of help and guidance to people who have the enthusiasm to get started with this stuff was a real joy. The impromptu social media game was slightly more stressful but I hope it was enjoyable for everyone!… Continue

Youth Citizenship Commission

From the Ministry of Justice's Governance of Britain site:

The Governance of Britain Green Paper, published in July 2007, highlighted the need for Government to engage with young people and encourage them to play an active part in British society.

The Youth Citizenship Commission was set up to examine ways of developing young people’s understanding of citizenship and increase their…

Engaging young offenders

Here is a nice story from Colchester, via 24dash.com:

Underpasses across Colchester are being revamped with a lick of paint thanks to Colchester Borough Council’s partnership with the Colchester Youth Offenders group.

The Highwoods underpass is the first of several large scale projects to be completed in Colchester over the summer in a bid to clean up graffiti, with the support of…

Using Creative Assessment Tools for Practitioners at Attlee Youth & Community Centre, London E1

April 11, 2013 from 9:30am to 4:30pm
BackgroundOne of the challenges of assessment processes with young people is how to secure their involvement and active participation. Only too often assessment can become something that is ‘done’ to young people (or a form that needs  to be filled in), rather than a dynamic process that puts them at the centre, something theyare involved with and have some ownership over. The assessment tools called ‘CAF Cards’  and ‘Road Sign Cards’ have been developed with young people to work with the…See More
