"Hi Duncan, For a number of years we used a system called Viewpoint for LAC reviews, but this seemed to gradually decline as the web moved on and it began to feel dated. I think they are still offering a service, try http://www.vptorg.co.uk/. More…"

Preston Social - Social Media & Young People at New Continental

September 27, 2011 from 6:30pm to 7:30pm
With the news that a father in Northern Ireland is suing Facebook over suggestive photos of his 12 year old girl posted on the site, the question of whose responsibility it is to ensure that children and young people are safe online is getting more heated. Is it the responsibility of the makers of websites, the parents, or the education system? Or should we expect children to be web savvy enough to not put…See More

Facebook, under 13s & who is responsible?

Hi EveryoneI'm sure many of you will seen that a father in Northern Ireland is bringing a case against Facebook (and the local care trust) for allowing his 12 year old daughter to post suggestive photos on the site. This is again raising the question of who is responsible (legally or morally) for young people's safety in online spaces - I think the answer is "it's a combination of people & organisations". As well as this I assume that is the care trust (who had parental responsibility for…See More

"I'd like to have a crack at the old chestnut - organisational change. How do we get people to see the value? How do we get away from the communications team holding all the cards and get the tools more freely available to practitioners?"

Using Creative Assessment Tools for Practitioners at Attlee Youth & Community Centre, London E1

April 11, 2013 from 9:30am to 4:30pm
BackgroundOne of the challenges of assessment processes with young people is how to secure their involvement and active participation. Only too often assessment can become something that is ‘done’ to young people (or a form that needs  to be filled in), rather than a dynamic process that puts them at the centre, something theyare involved with and have some ownership over. The assessment tools called ‘CAF Cards’  and ‘Road Sign Cards’ have been developed with young people to work with the…See More
