Brief bio: tell us a few facts about you & your interest in digital aspects of work with young people
I have been working online with young people for some time now, using messenger, facebook. I feel its a valuable tool for youth workers to be using in the digital age and that we as workers need to be out there on the internet engaging with young people. My views and opinions change with experience of digital technology with regards to safety and what needs to be in place for youth workers and young people......as I learn... online working has been a passion of mine for over 4 years.....I just see it as a form of outreach work

There were major concerns with this young person she had not engaged with any services

Mental health

Social services

School including mentors

Education welfare stepped in and referred her to the project. When she came she would stand and not join in with the group, would not talk only nod head, no eye contact with anyone and insisted on wearing a cap, would not take her coat off. She would not eat or drink during the day.

Hi Joanne, Woop woop great news about the work you've being doing for the few years. Be good to have a chat about your experience. 3 years ago I started using social media to maintain contact (Connexions PA) with vulnerable young men whom were 'sofa surfing' or involved in prostitution.

For the last 2 years I have been researching and developing methodologies and polices in the practical application of online social media platforms to gain the views of vulnerable young people. I have successfully engaged and enabled young people to express their views online and participate with local decision makers in Devon to contribute to the delivery of Devon Children's & Young peoples Plan. Relevant information/links and docs have been uploaded to my webpagehttp://www.katiebacon.co.uk

Hope you have a fab weekend - Katie

Using Creative Assessment Tools for Practitioners at Attlee Youth & Community Centre, London E1

April 11, 2013 from 9:30am to 4:30pm
BackgroundOne of the challenges of assessment processes with young people is how to secure their involvement and active participation. Only too often assessment can become something that is ‘done’ to young people (or a form that needs  to be filled in), rather than a dynamic process that puts them at the centre, something theyare involved with and have some ownership over. The assessment tools called ‘CAF Cards’  and ‘Road Sign Cards’ have been developed with young people to work with the…See More
