Excellent flow diagram! Easy to understand. Can I have permission to share with staff members within Devon? And sign post other youth practitioners? I would add info links to online support services for young people and practitioners: CEOP www.ceop

Dates for 1 day Social Media & Social Network Training for Youth Professionals

Social media can amplify the positives and negatives of everyday life for young people, and can expose them to new opportunities and new risks. There are undoubtedly both positive and negative aspects to social media – but whatever our views – Youth Professionals need to understand the online activities and environments young people are engaging with. Explore both how to support young people as they engage in these environments; and how to creatively use social media and social networking to enh… Continue

Where to start? One step @ a time...

One step @ a time....I have had numerous conversations with youth practitioners who have expressed frustration about the resistance and lack of interest from colleagues/local authority. Other professionals have expressed interest but feel overwhelmed about how and/or what level of ‘online engagement’ to start with and where to aim… Continue

Online pornography and young people

This blog discusses topics of a sexual nature which some people may find offensive. I have been explicit about the subject matter to prevent ambiguity. I intend no offense, but want to be clear and explicit before you read the blog.

One of the areas I am currently exploring is how social media platforms can be creatively utilised to eng… Continue

Hi Katie,
Thanks for getting in touch. I've got involved with this as we are currently doing our Safeguarding policy at church in Uplyme. I'd love to have a chat sometime/or see the risk assessment and policy. I'm head of St Andrew's Primary in Chardstock too. I'm really pleased that I can find out what is happening for workers in Devon. I'm particularly concerned to protect our youth workers as well as thinking about keeping kids safe and giving advice to parents. Any ideas are really welcome!
Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Katie

Thanks for all the info, had a quick look and am really looking forward to spending some time reading it properly.
currently im using Facebook and Msn messenger , and created a new project website, with hopefully forums that I hope to train some of the young women who I work with to become moderaters and admin assistants... as i would love it to be led by them.
Currently trying to work within... no policies or guidelines from the council ...but have shared my learning and explored the virtual world with colleagues. I will write some stuff up shortly, my work has all been practical and i think there are some interesting case studies to explore as worker and some of the challenges I have faced when working with young women online.

well I could never turn down the offer of coffee! - looks like I'll be down here at least until the end of November so maybe mid Nov? Thurs & Fridays are best as other days I have my youngest tagging along - anytime between 10am - 2pm is good. Only date I can't do is the 6th so if any others fit with you let me know. Prob best to do later in the month to see if ideas develop for Tims mentoring programme suggestion so can have something good to chat about.

lol Hi Katie - you could say I'm linked to YoMo Training ;-) I'll pass on your comments to Kirsty she'll appreciate them - especially the 'kick arse' bit! :-)

I'm living down in Devon at the moment too - which at last does seem recently to be 'sunny Devon!'. Won't be here for too much longer though as currently looking for somewhere to live up in Oxfordshire.

Hi Katie

Looks like I won't be able to make the 25/26th now. Maybe we can organise some time to meet up otherwise?

HI Katie

Thanks for the message. I've also been off and sick so everything has been at a bit of a standstill for the moment. Yes I'm heading up to London for the 26th. I can't make the 27th unfortunately but will be up for the conference and then the NYA launch (once I get it sorted.) We've got some groups that are already running facebook etc but today we highlighted the need for guidelines etc. If there's time on the 26th to chat it would be great (I'm assuming you're there) or if you have any that you've put together that we could look at before then it would be really helpful.

Thanks
Hilary

Hi Katie

Would love to talk more as I was just discussing Devon's work with Carole Aspden, our PYO today. We're also looking at the same type of forums across West Sussex.
