Seeking contributors to a new communal youth sector blog, for and by youth workers & practitioners

As youth work professionals we all understand how important reflective practice and sharing is, and with the youth sector under serious threat, funding depleted and services closing down every week it is vital that we come together to share our expertise, our experiences and our thoughts about youth work and the sector more widely. Through this we can encourage an open dialogue, collaboration, sharing, transparency, replication not duplication, and a national sense of community and shared…See More

Brief bio: tell us a few facts about you & your interest in digital aspects of work with young people
I am a youth worker, a social entrepreneur, a trainer, a presenter and a facilitator.

I am the founder and Managing Director of Treetop Training and Education, as well as The Game Trainers and the Gifted Students Academy.

I have been in the youth and education sectors for over 20 years. Qualifying as a Community Development and Youth Worker in 1995, I have worked in a wide variety of settings, including with the homeless community at The Big Issue Ltd, with young people in residential support centres, leading on street based youth work initiatives, and as the Director of wide reaching local youth and community initiatives. For over 4 years I was the Director of a national education charity specialising in youth participation and active citizenship in schools.

I also work as an Associate with CfBT, LEAP Confronting Conflict, London Youth and numerous other organisations.

- I believe that young people can be LEADERS NOW and not just in the future
- I believe that games and play make us better, help us learn and support creativity
- I believe learning should be fun and engaging
- I believe that process is as important as outcome
- I believe questions help us more than answers

I have always been interested in how technology and ICT can support our work, especially with the aim of making it more engaging and participatory for young people.

Using Creative Assessment Tools for Practitioners at Attlee Youth & Community Centre, London E1

April 11, 2013 from 9:30am to 4:30pm
BackgroundOne of the challenges of assessment processes with young people is how to secure their involvement and active participation. Only too often assessment can become something that is ‘done’ to young people (or a form that needs  to be filled in), rather than a dynamic process that puts them at the centre, something theyare involved with and have some ownership over. The assessment tools called ‘CAF Cards’  and ‘Road Sign Cards’ have been developed with young people to work with the…See More
