Bring Your Own Device - how to use it in your setting

How could “Bring Your Own Device” work in your setting?

A great deal has been written about the use of “Bring Your Own Device” in educational settings, about how is has the ability to transform young people’s learning, the challenges and benefits that this presents to teachers, schools, young people and parents.  But have people been thinking about this could be transferred into different settings?

The benefits of young people using their own devices in education…

Seeking contributors to a new communal youth sector blog, for and by youth workers & practitioners

As youth work professionals we all understand how important reflective practice and sharing is, and with the youth sector under serious threat, funding depleted and services closing down every week it is vital that we come together to share our expertise, our experiences and our thoughts about youth work and the sector more widely. Through this we can encourage an open dialogue, collaboration, sharing, transparency, replication not duplication, and a national sense of…

The State of the Media – the social media report 2012 Nielsen and it’s relevance to young people

Nielsen – a global information and measurement company, launched their “State of the Media: the social media report 2012” 12th of December.   This report is based on a survey completed with 2000 social media users in the US between July and August this year.  What initially caught my eye about this report was a tweet about 32% of people aged 18-24 used social networking while in the bathroom – so I thought I’d take a further look!

The report starts by looking at…

Should we ignore the…

Young people are warned they may lose control over their images and videos once they are uploaded online

– A study by the Internet Watch Foundation shows that 88% of the self-generated, sexually explicit online images and videos of young people their analysts encountered had been taken from their original location and uploaded onto other websites. Music-Based Learning in the North East

We are researching music-based learning with children in challenging circumstances in the North East, and whilst the Youth Work sector can be active in this area, we've realised that it is under-represented in thinking, planning and funding.
This is research that will be published nationally by Youth Music in October 2012.
If you use music in your delivery, in any way, with children and young people who don't access regular mainstream education, we'd love to know…

Using Creative Assessment Tools for Practitioners at Attlee Youth & Community Centre, London E1

April 11, 2013 from 9:30am to 4:30pm
BackgroundOne of the challenges of assessment processes with young people is how to secure their involvement and active participation. Only too often assessment can become something that is ‘done’ to young people (or a form that needs  to be filled in), rather than a dynamic process that puts them at the centre, something theyare involved with and have some ownership over. The assessment tools called ‘CAF Cards’  and ‘Road Sign Cards’ have been developed with young people to work with the…See More
