Research report launch - some thoughts

I went to the research report launch on Friday which was really interesting, but it did get me thinking.

Here are some questions and thoughts:

1. It seems as if some youth workers want an 'off the shelf' document with guidelines and policies around social networking. Has anyone has produced a 'dummies guide' and 'dummies guide to keeping safe on social networks' type document – this seems to be what youth workers want, even though their locality and relationships with… Continue

Thanks Tim and an offer of help

Just a word of thanks to Tim Davies for organising the event on Saturday (27th), and to the folk at DIUS for providing the venue, the food (so much pizza!) and the excellent facilities.

I did mention at a couple of the sessions that I attended that if anyone wanted to utilise a free and secure community platform (with potential access to over 16,000 local and central gov staff), they could use the IDeA Community of Practice Platform.… Continue

A great day - see for yourself!

The first (of many, I hope!) UKYouthOnline unconference was an unmitigated success today. Big thanks to Tim for organising it, and to Steph and the other DIUS folk for being such great hosts.

I really enjoyed the Social Media Surgery, being able to give a bit of help and guidance to people who have the enthusiasm to get started with this stuff was a real joy. The impromptu social media game was slightly more stressful but I hope it was enjoyable for everyone!… Continue

Well - that worked rather well then...

At 9.45 this morning I wasn't quite sure what the day would hold. Standing in a conference room on the 10th floor of the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills - waiting for the first UK Youth Online unconference goers to arrive.

I was rather nervous. Not least because:

a) It was the first time I'd ever tried to organise an 'unconference';

b) It was the first time DIUS had opened up their building on a Saturday for any sort of event like this;

c) I… Continue

"Hi Mildred. I currently use Awebber for my email campaigns. It's a paid service, but after my research, it seemed to be the best option for me. I also have a mail chimp account, but I have never used it. Awebber was not too difficult to set…"

Using Creative Assessment Tools for Practitioners at Attlee Youth & Community Centre, London E1

April 11, 2013 from 9:30am to 4:30pm
BackgroundOne of the challenges of assessment processes with young people is how to secure their involvement and active participation. Only too often assessment can become something that is ‘done’ to young people (or a form that needs  to be filled in), rather than a dynamic process that puts them at the centre, something theyare involved with and have some ownership over. The assessment tools called ‘CAF Cards’  and ‘Road Sign Cards’ have been developed with young people to work with the…See More
