Thoughts and questions from a newbie to digital unconferences!

  • So the first thing to say is how much I enjoyed the unconference on Saturday.  Just being around so many committed and knowledgable people is an inspiration!  It was also great to have the space to opt out of some of the afternoon sessions to simply sit with my colleagues Paula and Kerry and think about what we needed to do in Platform 51 as a result of what we'd learnt.

Platform 51 is a fabulous organisation working with women and girls to create change for…

Next steps for Youth Work Online...

Youth Work Online has been around for a few years now. The Network here now has over 900 members, many more visitors who haven't yet joined, and today we ran our fourth annual open space unConference event.

It's run fairly informally, and has worked well as a non-commercial and shared space for talking digital dimensions of work with young people - and I've been funding the running costs (just the domain name and monthly Ning subscription), with help from Katie Bacon in the…

Using Creative Assessment Tools for Practitioners at Attlee Youth & Community Centre, London E1

April 11, 2013 from 9:30am to 4:30pm
BackgroundOne of the challenges of assessment processes with young people is how to secure their involvement and active participation. Only too often assessment can become something that is ‘done’ to young people (or a form that needs  to be filled in), rather than a dynamic process that puts them at the centre, something theyare involved with and have some ownership over. The assessment tools called ‘CAF Cards’  and ‘Road Sign Cards’ have been developed with young people to work with the…See More
